The Coalition’s member organizations work to ensure that under-resourced communities have housing and economic opportunities in neighborhoods throughout the District of Columbia in a variety of ways. The Coalition plays an important and unique role in providing a forum for local nonprofits and mission-driven for-profits to discuss their policy needs. The Coalition advocates forcefully on those issues on their behalf.

The Coalition’s working groups are open to members and non-members dedicated to solving some of the most important housing and economic development issues facing Washington, DC.

The Coalition has released its FY2027 District budget recommendations, calling for targeted investments to expand economic opportunity and strengthen communities across the District.

Grounded in member input and on-the-ground expertise, these recommendations prioritize affordable housing, small business growth, workforce development, and community investment in the District’s FY2027 Budget.

Working Groups

Housing Working Groups

The Coalition believes that an ample supply and array of solutions is needed to end chronic homelessness and to sustain a continuum of housing that meets the needs of the most economically vulnerable residents of the District. The Coalition supports Housing First, as well as other evidence-based models that demonstrate successful outcomes for their residents.

Economic Development Working Groups

Economic growth must be the priority for every community. The Coalition works with our members, other advocates and policymakers to strengthen and cultivate the District’s community development economy. We not only work with our partners to advocate for policies, initiatives and programs that promote job creation and encourage investment, but also ones that address economic mobility throughout all District communities.

Community Engagement

Community Voices Academy

The Community Voices Academy (CVA) is The Coalition‘s premier advocacy and policy engagement training program for District residents with lived experiences. The CVA is designed to structurally and systematically uplift the voices and perspectives of under-represented residents with lived experiences surrounding affordable housing, supportive services, and/or workforce development training and programs.

Resident Engagement Network

The Resident Engagement Network is a hands-on, rewards-based resident engagement and advocacy training initiative connecting DC residents with advocacy, policy, and community engagement experts.
