The Coalition is seeking a skilled, dynamic, and innovative person to fill the position of Housing Policy Associate. Working closely with the Chief Housing Officer, the Housing Policy Associate will advance proven and innovative approaches to housing affordability and access in the District of Columbia. The role entails project management, problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, research, and issue analysis. During the course of work, the Housing Policy Associate will learn The Coalition’s grounded approach to policy development, communicate regularly with The Coalition’s members, and participate in periodic learning exchanges with peers in other jurisdictions.

The Housing Policy Associate’s primary duties involve special projects, such as small multifamily housing preservation, affordable housing cost reduction, and low-income homeowner success. They will also support organizational awareness about the core housing issues of interest to our rental, ownership, and supportive housing working groups.

The Coalition offers a competitive benefits package, including health insurance, employer retirement contributions, paid vacation and sick leave, teleworking, and an optional deferred salary retirement plan. Salary range is $80k – $100k annually, commensurate with experience and track record of accomplishments. This position is exempt from overtime wages.

The Coalition is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit membership organization that convenes a network of affordable housing developers, workforce training providers, small business support organizations, financial institutions, and government partners. Together, this network works to expand economic opportunity for low-income residents across the District, particularly in Wards 5, 7, and 8, where poverty and housing instability remain most significant.

The VISTA Volunteer will strengthen the communications infrastructure that supports this network by building systems to improve how impact data, stories, and program outcomes are collected, organized, and shared. Although The Coalition and its partners generate significant outcomes in housing stability, workforce development, and small business growth, communications efforts are limited by fragmented data, constrained staff capacity, and inconsistent storytelling processes.

Key responsibilities include establishing an impact story collection process, creating centralized systems for organizing and maintaining program data and communications assets, and improving how internal information is translated into external-facing content. The VISTA will also support the development of website content, newsletters, impact stories, and basic graphic design assets for digital and social media platforms.

The goal of this position is to strengthen The Coalition’s long-term capacity to demonstrate the collective impact of its network. The systems developed during the VISTA term will increase visibility for effective anti-poverty strategies, improve the organization’s ability to communicate results to funders and policymakers, and support greater investment in affordable housing, workforce development, and small business initiatives serving low-income communities.
