Maki is the AmeriCorps VISTA at Network for Developing Conscious Communities (NDCC). As part of his role, he recently developed and presented a presentation during NDCC’s Black Coopnomics Academy, focusing on Member Engagement Strategies and how to maintain and build stronger relationships between constituents within a co-op. In addition, Maki has led workshops for local professionals aimed at enhancing their communities through cooperative models. These workshops used a structured approach to co-op development and feature experienced local professionals as guest speakers. Topics include banking, relevant legal considerations, and creating business plans. These efforts are part of NDCC’s Black Coopnomics Academy initiative, which seeks to equip local professionals with tools to uplift their communities through co-ops and, in turn, improve community health. After completing his VISTA term, Maki plans to move abroad and utilize the English as a Second Language certification he is currently pursuing.
